Shiva Nataraja Brass Sculpture

Lord Shiva is the supreme God of Hindus and also known as Para Brahma. Shiva Lingam is the divine image of Lord Shiva which is made of stone or metal but it divinely symbolizes the glory of Lord Shiva. Shiva is worshipped in His form of Shiva Linga. Among the three main deities in Hindu religion Shiva finds a supreme niche. The three Lords are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. They are known as Trimurti. It is said that Brahma is the creator, Vishnu the preserver and the Shiva the destroyer or transformer.

Every living being is created by Lord Shiva. All the creatures present in this earth and universe have a single supreme creator and He is the supreme of all powers -Lord Shiva. He is the creator and on the same time destroyer also. He is static and cannot be changed or destroyed. Simply, He is the source of every atoms or molecules, air, water, fire, etc.

Chanting the name of Lord Shiva can console your scared or fickle mind. Lord Shiva is also known as Ashutosh because He can be pleased very easily. It is said that in order to relieve the sufferings of His devotees Lord Shiva appeared in flesh and blood. The holy books like Shiva Purana, Shiva Parakramam, etc give vivid details of Lord Shiva.
There are several images of Shiva like Rudra, Shankra, Nila Kanta, Nataraja, etc. His Violent appearance can be seen as Rudra. He destroys all evil and inauspicious things- living or non-living that can be the reason of destruction. The third eye of Lord Shiva is the powerful eye which can see all the things in Universe and also it is well known for its power as it has burned Kama (desire) to ashes.
Lord Shiva is also known as “Nila Kanta” for He has once drank the poison that came out from the world ocean during the demigods and gods were churning it to get “amrit”. In order to save the whole world from the ill effects of poison, He drank it and His throat turned blue. And it is also believed that to cool himself from the effect of that destructive poison, Shiva wrapped his neck with snakes as cold as ice. However, Lord Shiva appears as a divine cosmic dancer as Nataraja, or The Lord Of Dance where he dances in joy and total abondon with Parvati, His consort .

One of the most distinctive features of Shiva is His matted hair. Ganges, one of the major rivers of India has made her abode in the matted hairs of Shiva. The sacred water of Ganges River flows down from the Shiva’s hair to the Earth so as to avoid flood and calamity as the force of her waters are so strong.
